will make you feel like you are walking on air.
Dr. Marten shoes, sandals, and boots will leave
your feet happy and relaxed!
The concept
of the first Dr. Martens boot came to a German medical
doctor, Klaus Maertens, in 1945 as he was recovering
from a skiing injury. Inspired by his injured foot,
he hit upon the idea of developing a shoe with an
air cushioned sole that provided extra comfort and
support than the average shoe.Marten took his idea
a step further by teaming up with an old college engineering
friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they developed
the concept of this revolutionary shoe, soon presenting
the worlds first heat-sealed air cushioned sole.
By the
late 1950s, the shoes were selling well in Germany
under the brand name Dr. Martens, but Maerten and
Funck were ready to find new markets. They placed
advertisements in trade magazines, and one was spotted
by Bill Griggs, the chairman of English footwear manufacturer,
R Griggs & Company. R Griggs & Company had
a strong footwear history, but they were ready to
start something new. Recognizing the potential of
the innovative soles developed by Maerten and Funck,
Griggs purchased the global rights to use the air
cushioned sole and developed a variety of footwear
to accompany it.
On April
1, 1960, the first pair of Dr. Martens boots was produced
in the Northamptonshire village of Wollaston in England.
Quickly given the name "1460s" on
account of their date of manufacture, the boots have
become a design icon all over the world.
